Access other user's accounts in Windows Vista / Windows 7

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, if you need to access the Administrator account built into Windows, you don't have to boot into Safe Mode to do it. You may need to access the elevated Administrator account to access other user accounts to backup files in case of a failure.

1. Log into your regular account. go into the Start Menu, left-click "all programs", then on "accessories", then right-click "command prompt", and left-click "run as administrator", and enter the required password, if you used one when Windows Vista was originally installed.

2. The command prompt window will open. Now type, without the quotes, "net user administrator /active:yes". You should then see the command completed successfully.

3. You should now be able to log out of Windows, and see the built-in Administrator account alongside your regular account as an option to use.

4. Once you have logged into the elevated Administrator account, left-click the start menu, left-click "Computer", double-left click "Local Disk C:/" or whichever hard drive Vista is installed on, double-left click "Users", then navigate through the users files and back them up as needed.

Do compact – Preventive Maintenance (for Mail Client users)

When you delete or move a message, most e-mail clients simply hide the message and mark it as ready for physical deletion later on.  The “deleted” messages are still stored in the folder even emptying the Trash does not remove them.  The hidden messages are not physically removed until the folder is compacted.  If you don’t compact your mail folders periodically, they can grow very large and may become corrupt.

To recover disk space and keep your files as small as possible, you need to compact your folders regularly.

If you feel your Inbox is getting larger break it up and make new folders. Use filters for segregating mails in appropriate folders.  Check and delete unimportant junk mails frequently.

Procedure to compact folders on

Thunderbird

File -> Compact folder (It’ll compact all folders)
    Or
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network & Disc Space -> Compact folder when it will save over 100 kB (It will automatically compact folders)

Outlook Express

File -> Folder -> Compact All Folders

Outlook

File ->Data File Management
it will lead you to Data Files tab on Account Settings
Select .Pst folder which you like to compact
Click on Settings…
